Sharp rise in progressive jackpot pools at online casinos

A lack of big hits means the top three progressive jackpot pools are all currently worth over $4.7million.

An absence of big hits on progressive jackpot online slots has seen the pools of many online gambling software providers rise sharply. While each jackpot network in the pool operates independently, online casinos advertise total pool values as an indication of their offering.

The Microgaming jackpot pool, worth $5 million, has returned to the top position. Both its major networks hit milestones this week, recovering from a period of frequent low level hits. Mega Moolah, Microgaming's network of four video slots, has just reached $3 million. Major Millions, which has a five reel video slot and a three reel classic slot, crossed the $1 million barrier for the first time in over two years. It was always hit for less than $500,000 during this time. In both games, players wager $3 for the progressive jackpot, which can be hit on either slot game.

In second position is software provider Playtech, whose pool is valued at just over $4.8million. This jackpot pool encompasses a large number of smaller jackpot casino games and networks, and some bigger slots. Beach Life is its major jackpot and one of the quickest growing in the industry. In just over three months it has risen at an average level of $20,000 a day, from its reset level of $50,000 to $1.8 million. The Marvel Ultimate Power network, comprising all the Marvel Movies superhero slots, is currently worth $800,000.

Next is the Realtime Gaming jackpot pool, worth over $4.7million. None of its four top progressive jackpot online slots, each worth over $1million, have been hit in the last two years.

Realtime Gaming's lead jackpot slot game, Jackpot Pinatas, has not been hit in almost four years and currently stands at $1.7million. Second is Aztec Millions, last hit two years ago and worth $1.3millon. Finally, Mid Life Crisis and Shopping Spree, which have never been hit, both stand at just over $1million.
